It is with regret that we have decided to cancel Christmas in the Heartland 2020 and our Christmas Country Market in Josephburg. The limit to the number of people allowed in a building is a major factor at this time. We could hope the head count limit change for the better but the majority of the smaller venues that are part of this event have chosen to not participate this year. With over ten years running, we are a family and without the other venues, it just wouldn’t be Christmas in the Heartland.
CITH is an event for the senses and a showcase of local heritage. Some of our interactive displays would be negatively affected and not allowed to proceed as they have in the past. Without heritage displays, this affects our funding we receive to produce CITH.
We operate this event thanks to the assistance of Strathcona County providing bussing and evening events. Bussing has been cancelled for 2020 as has the Heartland Hall evening events that include fireworks.
With too much uncertainty of what the fall holds, we feel we have no choice but to shelve the event this year. We sincerely appreciate your attendance to all our events and hope to see everyone again when we are back to capacity for the full enjoyment of this great local, much-loved event called Christmas in the Heartland. We hope 2021 is a better year for all.
